Kids

So, I made the discovery today that I’m not as averse to kids as I’d first thought.  Yes, I might find them a little bit scary and intimidating, but it doesn’t take that long to become comfortable in their presence.  Now it might be a different story of course if I actually had to play with them or something.  I can cope with smiles, hello’s, and shipping them from one parent to another more or less fine.  And I’ve only been working there two weeks.  If I’m not careful, I’ll be getting over the shyness in no time.

So yeah, kids are pretty cool actually.  And I’m really glad I’ve taken this volunteering job.  I really hope I don’t have to give it up completely when I find a proper job.  I really don’t.  I’m going to miss it next weekend as I don’t have to go in.  But I’m back there in a fortnight.  Yay.

And The Child had left her lunchbox in school.  Goes to show what can be avoided by paying attention to what she brings out with her.  Still, I should perhaps have been a bit more lenient with The Ex.  I can’t expect him to remember everything now can I?  Especially when it’s a bit busy in the playground and stuff.  That said, I still manage to count how many bags she leaves school with, no matter how flustered I am.  Hmm.  Oh well.  At least it all worked out ok.

Lunchbox

The Ex managed to lose The Child’s lunchbox this evening.  I was just a wee bit annoyed.  The best bit though is that he was unable to tell me if she’d left it at school or not.  Now maybe I’m alone here, but the first thing I do when I pick her up from school is check she’s got everything.  And if I did manage to overlook the lunchbox, I’d notice as soon as we got home.  So, I got a phone call from The Ex when he was already on his way round to drop The Child off home.  Given that it was gone six this evening it was a bit late to go replacement lunchbox shopping.  And I have no idea if it will be waiting for The Child at school tomorrow or not, as The Ex has no recollection of whether The Child had the lunchbox upon leaving school or not.  All he knows is that it isn’t at his flat.  Joy.  To give him some credit, he has offered to replace it if needs be.  I could have done without the ‘what the hell do I put her lunch in tomorrow?’ panic though.  And there is the small problem of a drink.  Though in theory she could take in a carton, if she doesn’t drink the whole thing, it’d still be put back in the makeshift lunchbox and would then leak everywhere.  Joy.  Fortunately, and again to give The Ex some more credit, he does apparently have some lunchbox bag type thing that he can lend us apparently.  I just have to hope he remembers to drop it round later.  Grrr.
